The Artist Greer Baxter

Greer Baxter kicks off 2021 with her enthralling new single “Sleeping on the Couch”

Greer Baxter’s “Sleeping on the Couch” is one indie pop song that is set to blast its way through portable speakers across all university campuses in 2021. This captivating song details the all too relatable tale of sleeping on the couch after an argument with a loved one.

Greer Baxter’s insanely compelling voice conveys all the emotional pain of an argument with your other half. The song’s infectious melody only adds to the commanding piano presence and pounding drum beats to create an irresistible, evocative atmosphere. Baxter explains:

“I wrote this song about suddenly being at odds with the person you love and trying to make sense of it. We’ve all had a night sleeping on the couch and we wake up in the morning thinking: why would we let a fight keep us apart for the night? It’s about wanting to resolve it before falling asleep and wondering if the other person feels the same.”

Haling from New York City, Greer Baxter always showed exceptional musical talent from the start, learning to play piano, sing and write songs from an early age. “Sleeping on the Couch” is Greer Baxter’s first musical outing since the release of her euphoric debut EP “Bleed” in 2019. This EP showcased her innate ability to accurately capture the painful struggle of heartbreak and emotional turmoil, whilst also imposing exceptionally catchy pop melodies. She has successfully combined the sound of artists such as Regina Spektor and Alanis Morisette with an alternative pop sound reminiscent of chart favourite Halsey.

Music is not the only passion in the life of Greer Baxter. Her extraordinary command of the English language has led her to study poetry at university, which gave her the incredible opportunity to meet Michelle Obama at the White House during poetry month.

Ever since I have been introduced to Greer Baxter, her music has been a constant in my Spotify queues. Greer Baxter is an artist that is not to be missed, so check her music out if you haven’t already.

87 and The Toys drop new EP ‘Japanesy If You Pleasey’ in classic DIY indie pop fashion

The seven tracks that make up ‘Japanesy If You Pleasey’ are a trigger which come together to portray the trio’s indie expertise and passion.

Indie artists such as Violent Femmes, B-52s, Daniel Johnson and Neutral Milk Hotel are clear inspiration for the twists and turns of their style. But they also hold their own in retaining a quirky and fresh sound.

The songs ask questions from everything regarding government, corona virus and even all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants and BoJack Horseman. Combined American and Japanese cultures are brought together in this DIY mash.

Listen to the tracks below:

The songs give a true personal feel, somehow also managing to epitomise coolness. For instance, ‘BoJack’, written after the band binge-watched the series throws out chirpy lyrics alongside gooey rhythms.

Perhaps the cherry on top for fans of this band is their no-filter approach. They take a calm viewpoint on production techniques and commit to artist integrity throughout.

Four Crooks have released indie rock EP ‘Black Magic’

Lockdown has certainly been a busy time for Four Crooks. The West-Midlands-based foursome gathered in a remote farmhouse to produce their EP which is now available to listen to below:

This indie band take inspiration from the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Catfish & The Bottlemen and The Black Keys. Their sound is gritty and raw but simultaneously presents their musical skill.

Consisting of Dave Morris (vocals/guitar), Eamonn Russell (guitar), Toby Barnett (bass) and Dan Quinton-Jones (drums), the band is made up of working-class music fanatics with a similar vision about how music should be played.

Their songs speak of substance abuse, relationships, and anxiety with a sense of realness that it’s hard to detach from. We look forward to hearing more from this emerging talent…

Aussie rising stars The Bonnie Doons to release new EP ‘The Betweeners’ on 20th November

The Brisbane-based five piece have teased the release of their upcoming EP ‘The Betweeners’ with their latest single ‘Fred’.

This song’s honest and blunt lyrics, depicting a malfunctioning relationship needing to be ended without guilt, stand it apart from blander singles. ‘Fred’ begins the countdown for The Bonnie Doons’ highly anticipated new album.

Boonie Doons give the 90s a showcase with their style of alternative rap and pop. ‘Fred’ offers classic chiming guitar chords intertwined with a fresh groove.

The music is perfect for stretching out and drenching the last of the sun from those crisp autumn mornings.

Similar to Ocean Alley, GUM and San Cisco, ‘The Betweeners’ creates a space where you can easily drift in the EP. The band’s new music leaves them in promising stead as the industry works on its return to live music, as soon as it’s safe to do so.

Thankfully, fans have ‘Fred’ to satisfy them until The Bonnie Doons can return in full force…

Today’s Main Musical Attraction: Ben Ridley And His Superbly Sweet Style

With the release of Ben Ridley’s ‘Sing’, i decided to take a look at this majestic, yet to the point tune.

‘Sing’ is a fantastically arranged piece, earning Ben a spot on a long list of greats!

He manages to gain a strong and cool bravado while Perfectly encapsulating the beauty that seeps through his mind; Images of New York lights, Rainy days and the bright feeling of being in a rich and cultured environment. The main theme though however, seems to be the positivity that Ben Ridley possesses, making his tracks that bit more heartfelt.

The overall feeling that the song ‘Sing’ gives me, is that of a person who has just found a new perception on life, and who is ready and willing to take on anything.

Mavis Victory Project- Don’t go away

Mavis Victory project is made up of  four brothers and a childhood friend, the band’s unconventional line-up is the perfect match to their equally mould-breaking sound. Formed by the Ransom brothers – singer Michael, Phil on rhythm guitar, Ollie on bass, Chris on drums and Robert Rosser on guitar and keyboard – the whole collective is self-taught

Oozing seedy electronic loops and with echoing, swooping vocals, their sound is all dangerous street corners; distant sirens and the creeping underworld. Appropriately, their video is just as unhinged, inviting you into their world.

With influences including Arctic Monkeys; Kanye West and ScHoolboy Q, Mavis Victory Project is the musical equivalent of joining a cult – once you’re in, you wonder how you ever managed without. The video to “Don’t Go Away” is due for release on September 22nd and is just as arresting as their sound; with girls, gangs and clandestine weirdery likely to eat away at the inside of your head in a way you won’t be able to resist.

Modiwo – Saving the World Through Music and Apples!

Confounding expectations, Modiwo have emerged from the shadows of the Carpathian Mountains to become one of the country’s breakout musical success stories, whilst also giving their time to support charity projects around the world. Initially forming in order to provide entertainment for local orphanages and retirement projects, demand for the band’s music grew to such a scale that they agreed to become a band in their own right.

Joining together musical forces from Romania, Ukraine, Moldova and Hungary, their unique anthemic dream-pop sound is embellished in their live shows with alpine horns, didgeridoos, and shakuhachi solos. Their latest track, “Never Give Up”, is an achingly blissful pillow of sunshine which brings to mind all the dreamiest elements of The Beloved.

Watch the video to Never Give Up here:

Their work for charities has also seen them charge entry fees to their gigs in donations of fruit instead of cash – all the proceeds going to local orphanages.

Indie-electro group Kid Cupid explore society’s conflicts in ‘Broken Down’

Indie-electro quartet Kid Cupid explore social conflicts within their latest electronic single ‘Broken Down’. Fusing soul, electronic and indie rock, Kid Cupid have an infectious style giving them an edge that stands out in the crowded market.

‘Broken Down’ doesn’t follow the indie song cliche that focuses on relationship as the quartet prefer to look at the wide picture. Their songs act as thought provoking social commentaries, giving a unique outlook on life. This original concept isn’t the only unique thing about ‘Broken Down’ as Kid Cupid also use gang vocals. Front women Laura Shaw’s stunning vocals are emphasised throughout the track, controlling the single entirely.

REVIEW: Junkerry – As We Are

Alternative pop artist Junkerry releases unique single ‘As We Are’ blending a range of genres and influences. After being classically trained in Indian music, Junkerry escaped from her original genre and started using state of the art softwares, her strong vocals and electric guitars. This has formed an infectious single with a prominent beat controlling it and Junkerry’s gentle vocals layered on top.

The electronic style of the track makes it impossible to not tap your foot in time with the beat. Listen to the track here:

Junkerry is also working alongside Dior designer Patrick Morgan who has used a Google Tilt visual paint brush to form the music video. Their aim is to transform the 2D video into the first ever Virtual Reality music video.
