J Carlyle’s latest single “Intruder Alert” is destined to storm the charts

I’ve just listened to one of the most memorable singles I’ve heard for months. J Carlyle’s new single “Intruder Alert” is a statement of intent for the poet cum rapper who has his eyes firmly set on chart success.

J Carlyle’s sublime soliloquies merged with an ecstatic melody creates what can only be described as an addictively catchy single. J Carlyle’s vocal delivery is also impeccable, as he flawlessly expresses the words he has written with clinical force. The single injects a wide range of genres into the listener’s ear such as reggae, hip hop, r&b and grime.

A musical prodigy, J Carlyle began showcasing his lyrical prowess at the age of 15 and has only expanded his talent as a musician since. 2020 was the year that J Carlyle first burst onto the scene with his acclaimed debut EP “Calculating the Ifs”.

This EP contained haunting echoes of events in J Carlyle’s life and touches on topics such as working in a hospital dealing with mental health issues. J Carlyle is determined to use music as a support mechanism for people struggling with mental health, he explains:

”I consider myself an advocate for Mental Health because it’s a topic which is extremely close to me. Over the last 10 years I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum from working in one of the largest mental health institutions in East Midlands, looking after people from all walks of life whose mental health has deemed them a risk to society or/and their own well-being. I myself have suffered with mental health issues also. This journey prompted me to work with Channel 4 and local council to create a music programme for the youth.”

“Intruder Alert” is the anticipated follow-up to J Carlyle’s 2020 single “Forever Girl”, which saw him collaborate with the legendary producer Mantra, who has worked with contemporary artists such as Rihanna and Future. I have no doubt that J Carlyle will soon be added to Mantra’s list of platinum-selling artists.

BBC Introducing have described this single as an “absolute banger” which I’m more than inclined to agree with. This single is only one of several new tracks that J Carlyle is gearing up for release in 2021; he’s also intending to release a book of poems as well as give spoken word performances. 2021 looks destined to be the year of J Carlyle and I’m sure this single is just the starting point.

The Artist Greer Baxter

Greer Baxter kicks off 2021 with her enthralling new single “Sleeping on the Couch”

Greer Baxter’s “Sleeping on the Couch” is one indie pop song that is set to blast its way through portable speakers across all university campuses in 2021. This captivating song details the all too relatable tale of sleeping on the couch after an argument with a loved one.

Greer Baxter’s insanely compelling voice conveys all the emotional pain of an argument with your other half. The song’s infectious melody only adds to the commanding piano presence and pounding drum beats to create an irresistible, evocative atmosphere. Baxter explains:

“I wrote this song about suddenly being at odds with the person you love and trying to make sense of it. We’ve all had a night sleeping on the couch and we wake up in the morning thinking: why would we let a fight keep us apart for the night? It’s about wanting to resolve it before falling asleep and wondering if the other person feels the same.”

Haling from New York City, Greer Baxter always showed exceptional musical talent from the start, learning to play piano, sing and write songs from an early age. “Sleeping on the Couch” is Greer Baxter’s first musical outing since the release of her euphoric debut EP “Bleed” in 2019. This EP showcased her innate ability to accurately capture the painful struggle of heartbreak and emotional turmoil, whilst also imposing exceptionally catchy pop melodies. She has successfully combined the sound of artists such as Regina Spektor and Alanis Morisette with an alternative pop sound reminiscent of chart favourite Halsey.

Music is not the only passion in the life of Greer Baxter. Her extraordinary command of the English language has led her to study poetry at university, which gave her the incredible opportunity to meet Michelle Obama at the White House during poetry month.

Ever since I have been introduced to Greer Baxter, her music has been a constant in my Spotify queues. Greer Baxter is an artist that is not to be missed, so check her music out if you haven’t already.

Leif Coffield is due to release an electro-pop sensation ‘Say My Name’

Leif Coffield is due to release his brand new single ‘Say My Name’ in February; it’s a dark twist on electro pop.

He’s gained support from the highly influential Clash Music and national BBC Radio, but he’s looking to broaden his sound to a wider audience still.

Leif is based in Glasgow, taking inspiration from artists that defy the mainstream. In the lyrics of his latest track, he tackles the suppression of relationships and the need to rediscover himself:

“I try in each of my songs for them to have one unique element or one distinguishing factor that sounds out of the ordinary and that separates it from the norm. I take a lot of inspiration from artists that endeavor to break the mold and refrain from operating within the confines of the mainstream. Artists like Flume, FINNEAS, Kanye West, Bon Iver etc where pushing the boundaries of the creative process and what is conventionally palatable is key.”

A stunning video will be released next month to accompany ‘Say My Name’. It contrasts the starkness of run-down council flats with the vividness of the visuals from the dancers involved.

With textured electronic pop never seen quite in the style of indie tracks, Leif Coffield is a boundary-breaker for certain.

8-years-old Elle releases Christmas single to support the homeless

The single, ‘It’s Christmas’, has been released after Elle decided to do more than just help the homeless in her hometown of Southampton and set her sights on the rest of the nation.

She’s raising money for homeless charity Shelter, to not only widen awareness but get them some vital funds ready for the festive season.

A percentage of all the funds from downloads and views of Elle’s music video (which you can watch below!) will go directly to the charity to help prevent homelessness in the lockdown and festive period.

Almost every Sunday Elle goes out with her mum delivering sandwiches, cake and fruit to those sleeping rough on the streets. She sets an example which we should all follow, not just at Christmas but all year round.

Elle said: “I just hope this song makes people think about homeless people this Christmas. It must be horrible to live on the streets and I just want to try and help them more if I can. Thank you to everyone who supports this fundraising campaign.”

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. We campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. For free and independent advice from Shelter visit: https://england.shelter.org.uk/get_help

87 and The Toys drop new EP ‘Japanesy If You Pleasey’ in classic DIY indie pop fashion

The seven tracks that make up ‘Japanesy If You Pleasey’ are a trigger which come together to portray the trio’s indie expertise and passion.

Indie artists such as Violent Femmes, B-52s, Daniel Johnson and Neutral Milk Hotel are clear inspiration for the twists and turns of their style. But they also hold their own in retaining a quirky and fresh sound.

The songs ask questions from everything regarding government, corona virus and even all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants and BoJack Horseman. Combined American and Japanese cultures are brought together in this DIY mash.

Listen to the tracks below:

The songs give a true personal feel, somehow also managing to epitomise coolness. For instance, ‘BoJack’, written after the band binge-watched the series throws out chirpy lyrics alongside gooey rhythms.

Perhaps the cherry on top for fans of this band is their no-filter approach. They take a calm viewpoint on production techniques and commit to artist integrity throughout.

Simon Collins’ new album ‘Becoming Human’ is a prog rock gemstone

Simon Collins has merged together an exciting mix of futuristic electronics, personal and engaging lyrics and the blasting, undeniable undertones of prog rock.

His latest album, ‘Becoming Human’, allows us to transcend on a journey filled with expressive meaning. The title track itself describes a character transformation- what is it truly like to be human? Check out the video below:

Previously within the genre of prog rock there has been a sense of disconnection between the writer and the instrumentals. However, Simon Collins effortlessly merges his abilities as a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist to form what can only be described as a major force of the genre.

Simon’s legendary father Phil Collins has clearly adapted him to a musical way of life, unsurprisingly learning to play drums at the age of 5. Following in his footsteps, we can certainly expect to see lots more from this musical fanatic.

Antonia Grace drops amazing EP ‘London Grace’ despite being only 10 years old

Antonia Grace won’t let anything hold her back, least of all her age! The 10-year old singer has released five hit tracks which really showcase her stunning vocals.

Her worldwide appeal leaves fans in awe at her singing and acting skills, with Antonia’s Anglo-French heritage aiding her online coverage globally. She’s already surpassed the triumphs of many musicians, finding magazine features and radio play easily within her talented grasp.

The star is most praised for her outstanding singing ability, and the EP really gives her a platform to present what she can do.

This also isn’t surprising since she began acting in musical theatre at only 5 years old, before performing to audiences of thousands of people at only age 7.

Tracks ‘My Little Ten’ and ‘Tick Tock and Bonbons’ are unbelievably mature and expressive for a girl of such youth. The EP is perfectly pop and upbeat; a great listen if you’re ever needing to feel motivated. Antonia Grace certainly has been.

Four Crooks have released indie rock EP ‘Black Magic’

Lockdown has certainly been a busy time for Four Crooks. The West-Midlands-based foursome gathered in a remote farmhouse to produce their EP which is now available to listen to below:

This indie band take inspiration from the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Catfish & The Bottlemen and The Black Keys. Their sound is gritty and raw but simultaneously presents their musical skill.

Consisting of Dave Morris (vocals/guitar), Eamonn Russell (guitar), Toby Barnett (bass) and Dan Quinton-Jones (drums), the band is made up of working-class music fanatics with a similar vision about how music should be played.

Their songs speak of substance abuse, relationships, and anxiety with a sense of realness that it’s hard to detach from. We look forward to hearing more from this emerging talent…

Odillia links up with Snoop Dogg for new single ‘Break it Down’

Listen below to the invigorating new tune from hip-hop pair Odillia and Snoop Dogg. It provides a funk and R&B stylised track, coming soon after Odillia’s latest major hit ‘End of the World’ with Lil Keed, which currently sits at 2.2 million views.

Despite her youth, Odillia excels in her performance dedication and writes all her own songs – including this one!

The song demonstrates the fragility of relationships, with one partner seeming to need clarification of where things stand.

It’s clear that this talented artist won’t be held down by the limitations of one music genre, but Odillia admits to being a hip hop artist at heart.

After leaving home at 16 to pursue her music, it’s inspiring to young musicians worldwide that she has succeeded in not only making her debut, but teaming up with legends like Snoop Dogg himself.
